African Meeting House

The African Meeting House, built in 1806 at 46 Joy Street, is the oldest surviving Black church building in the United States. It functioned as a religious and community center for Boston's African-American population and was a locus for abolitionist meetings and civic organizing in the 19th century. The structure is now part of the Museum of African American History and interprets the site's role in Black Boston history.
