Palace of Happiness

The Palace of Happiness, located in the heart of Baku, Azerbaijan, is a stunning Neo-Gothic building originally constructed in the early 20th century by oil baron Murtuza Mukhtarov as a surprise gift for his wife, Liza-Khanum Tuganova. Inspired by a French Gothic structure, the palace was completed in just nine months and features a statue of the Polish knight Zawisza Czarny above its entrance. Following the Bolshevik occupation in 1920, the palace transitioned from a private residence to a venue for women's vocational training and later served as a museum. Today, it operates as the Palace of Marriage Registrations and is recognized as a significant cultural monument, having undergone extensive restoration in 2012. Its rich history and architectural beauty make it a captivating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
