Black Horse Tavern (Old Saybrook, Connecticut)

The Black Horse Tavern, built around 1712 by John Burrows, is a historic tavern located at 175 North Cove Road in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. This 2+1⁄2-story timber-framed structure is one of the few surviving early 18th-century buildings in the state, reflecting the area's rich colonial history. Situated near the mouth of the Connecticut River, the tavern served as a vital stop for shipbuilders and travelers during its operational years until 1924. Its architectural features include a gabled roof, an original vertical board door, and a charming portico.
