Moses Hepburn Rowhouses

The Moses Hepburn Rowhouses, located in the historic Old Town area of Alexandria, Virginia, are a collection of four distinctive rowhouses built around 1850 by prominent African American businessman Moses Hepburn Sr. These two-story homes showcase a side hall plan and reflect the architectural style of their time. Notably, the rowhouses are linked to significant African American history, as Hepburn's son became the first African American town councilor in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1882. The houses were recognized for their historical importance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, making them a noteworthy stop for tourists and researchers interested in African American heritage and 19th-century architecture.
