Padgett-Thomas Barracks

Padgett-Thomas Barracks is a prominent dormitory at The Citadel, located in Charleston, South Carolina. Originally constructed between 1920 and 1922, it was the first building on the college's new campus and served as living quarters for cadets. The barracks features a distinctive eight-story tower and houses the Second Battalion of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. After being demolished in 2001, it was rebuilt and completed in 2004, incorporating modern design while maintaining its historical essence. The barracks surrounds a central quadrangle and includes unique architectural elements such as spiral staircases. It is named after notable alumni Col. J. G. Padgett and Col. John Pulaski Thomas, reflecting its rich military heritage and significance within the college community.
