Château Viale

Château Viale is a historic chateau located in the scenic hills north of Kpalimé, Togo. Built in the early 1940s by a German architect, it features a main building and a prominent tower. Currently owned by the Togolese government, the chateau serves as a venue for cabinet meetings and has hosted notable figures, including former French President François Mitterrand and other African leaders. The site has a rich history, having been a focal point for state events during the presidency of Gnassingbé Eyadéma, despite local discontent due to imposed curfews during such occasions. Renovated in 1979, Château Viale offers a glimpse into Togo's political history and architectural heritage.
