French Legation Museum

Built in 1841 as the residence of Alcée La Branche, the French chargé d’affaires to the Republic of Texas, the French Legation is one of Austin’s oldest frame structures. The building later passed through private ownership and was preserved as a historic site. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as a house museum interpreting early Austin and Republic of Texas history.
