1950 assassination attempt at Blair House

On November 1, 1950, two Puerto Rican nationalists attempted to assassinate President Harry S. Truman at Blair House, where he was residing during White House renovations. Griselio Torresola and Oscar Collazo attacked U.S. Secret Service and White House Police officers; Officer Leslie Coffelt was mortally wounded but killed Torresola before dying. Collazo was wounded, tried, and sentenced to death, a sentence later commuted to life; the attack prompted security changes for presidential protection.
