Contemporary Jewish Museum (Jessie Street Substation reuse)

The Contemporary Jewish Museum occupies the former Jessie Street Substation and reopened in its current, renovated facility designed by Daniel Libeskind in 2008. The building combines the historic substation shell with a distinctive modern addition and houses rotating exhibitions of contemporary art and cultural programming related to Jewish life and history. The museum is a prominent example of adaptive reuse of an early-20th-century industrial building in San Francisco.
