Northern Avenue Bridge closure history

The Northern Avenue Bridge in Boston's Seaport District, a steel swing-span bridge dating to the early 20th century, has been closed to motor traffic since 1997. Due to structural deterioration and safety concerns it was closed to pedestrians in 2014 and has been the focus of debate and proposals for rehabilitation or replacement since then. The bridge spans Boston Harbor near the Seaport and has appeared in numerous planning studies and public meetings regarding waterfront access.
