Green Falls

Green Falls, also known as Johnston's Tavern, is a historic house in Bowling Green, Virginia, believed to have been built around 1710. This Colonial-era dwelling is notable for being one of the earliest surviving 18th century frame houses in Caroline County. The structure features a two-story central block with one-story wings and massive brick chimneys. Throughout its history, it has served various roles, including a tavern in the 18th century, a store in the mid-19th century, and a post office from 1831 to 1859. The property also includes an 18th century meat house, a late-19th century carriage house, and an early-20th century barn. Green Falls was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history.
