Old Stone House archaeological investigations

The Old Stone House (constructed c.1765) is the oldest unchanged building on its original foundation in Washington, D.C., and archaeological investigations on the property have recovered 18th- and 19th-century domestic artifacts and features. Excavations and monitoring have documented structural remains, refuse deposits, and hearth-related features that illuminate colonial and early federal-period occupation of Georgetown. The site is managed and interpreted by the National Park Service as part of the Rock Creek Park unit.
