Isaiah Davenport House

The Isaiah Davenport House, built in 1820 in Savannah, Georgia, is a prime example of Federal-style architecture and serves as a historic house museum operated by the Historic Savannah Foundation since 1963. Originally the home of master builder Isaiah Davenport and his large family, the house transitioned from a family residence to a boarding house after Davenport's death. Over the years, it fell into disrepair but was saved from demolition by community efforts in the 1950s. The museum showcases period-specific restorations and furnishings, providing visitors with an authentic glimpse into early 19th-century life. Recognized for its historical significance, the Davenport House has received multiple awards, including the Preserve America Presidential Award and the Georgia Governor's Award in the Humanities.
