Lululaund

Lululaund was a unique Romanesque Revival-style house and studio built for the Bavarian-born British artist Hubert von Herkomer in Bushey, Hertfordshire, between 1886 and 1894. Designed based on a sketch by American architect Henry Hobson Richardson, it featured a striking exterior with turreted towers and elaborate interiors in German gothic style, including a dining room adorned with a relief frieze and a copper-ceilinged bedroom. Named after his late wife, Lulu, the house served as a creative hub where Herkomer staged innovative 'pictorial-music-plays' and later transformed into a film studio. Despite its cultural significance, Lululaund was demolished in 1939, but remnants of its design and the surrounding gardens have been preserved as public spaces, offering a glimpse into its artistic legacy.
