Sagana Lodge

Sagana Lodge, located in Kiganjo town at the foothills of Mount Kenya, is a historic state lodge in Kenya used by the President during official tours. Built between 1949 and 1950 as a royal residence, it was a wedding gift to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. Notably, it was at Sagana Lodge that Elizabeth received the news of her father's death, marking her accession to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II. After Kenya's independence in 1963, the lodge became a protected zone and has served as a significant retreat for political leaders, including Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga, during key negotiations in the country's history.
