Riviera implosion (2016)

The Riviera hotel and casino at 2901 S Las Vegas Blvd was demolished by implosion on May 9, 2016. Video clips and photos of the implosion were widely shared online and repurposed as GIFs and memes about Las Vegas change and development. The Riviera had operated on the Strip since 1955, and its implosion marked the end of one of the Strip’s longest-running properties.
