Bougemont Complex

Bougemont is a historic house located in Charleston, West Virginia, built around 1916 by prominent attorney Harrison Brooks Smith. The residence played a significant role in the business development of Charleston and features a striking symmetrical design with a central block and side wings, highlighted by a grand portico with Corinthian columns. After Smith's death in 1942, the property was acquired by another influential businessman, Horace Hamilton Smallridge, in 1959. Although it remains a private residence, Bougemont was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
