Jagannath Hall

Jagannath Hall, located at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, serves as a residence for students from religious minorities, including Buddhists, Christians, and Hindus. Established in 1921, it is modeled after the colleges of the University of Oxford and features a complex of buildings that include residences, dining rooms, and a prayer hall. The hall has a significant historical background, having been the site of tragic events during the 1971 genocide by the Pakistan Army, where over 300 students were killed. Additionally, a tragic roof collapse in 1985 resulted in 39 fatalities, leading to the reconstruction of the assembly building as the October Memorial Building. Today, Jagannath Hall stands as a symbol of resilience and a place of remembrance within the university community.
