Fulton Mansion Historical Site

The Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, located in Fulton, Texas, is a remarkable example of Second Empire architecture and one of the earliest of its kind in the Southwest. Built between 1874 and 1877 by Colonel George Ware Fulton and his wife Harriet, this four-story mansion, known as 'Oakhurst,' was equipped with modern amenities for its time, including indoor plumbing and gas lighting. The mansion has a rich history, having changed hands several times before being acquired by the state in 1976 and restored for public access in 1983. It is now a designated historic site, offering visitors a glimpse into 19th-century life along the Texas Gulf Coast.
