The House That Moved

The House That Moved is a historic building in Exeter, Devon, originally constructed in the late Middle Ages between 1420 and 1460. This remarkable half-timbered structure, one of the oldest private dwellings in Devon, was relocated in 1961 to preserve it from demolition due to city redevelopment. The building's move involved a complex engineering feat, where it was stripped to its wooden frame and transported 70 meters using winches and jacks. Today, it stands near the Church of St Mary Steps, showcasing its unique architectural features, including jettied floors and intricate windows.
