Alphonse Calhoun Avery House

The Alphonse Calhoun Avery House, also known as the Avery-Surnrnersette House, is a historic Late Victorian style brick home located in Morganton, North Carolina. Built around 1876, this two-story U-shaped house features a distinctive 2+1⁄2-story brick tower with a mansard roof. It is named after Alphonso Calhoun Avery, a prominent figure in North Carolina's history, who served as an associate justice of the state Supreme Court. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and is situated within the North Green Street-Bouchelle Street Historic District, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in the region's architectural and political heritage.
