Rotated downtown street grid

Downtown Dallas uses a street grid rotated roughly 45 degrees from true north, so many streets labeled 'north' and 'south' actually run northwest–southeast. This rotation, rooted in the original town plat and street planning, creates frequent apparent discrepancies between compass directions and street orientations for addresses and navigation. The rotated grid is evident at civic landmarks such as Dallas City Hall and affects address numbering and orientation across central Dallas.
