Franciscan Church, Timișoara

The Franciscan Church in Timișoara, built between 1725 and 1736, was the first church established in the Cetate district after the Habsburg conquest. Designed in the Italian Baroque style, it was dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk and served as a significant religious site until its demolition in 1911. The church hosted notable events, including visits from Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Joseph II, and played a role in the city's history, including the concealment of the Holy Roman Empire's regalia during the Napoleonic Wars. Today, the site is part of a broader urban development, with remnants of its history still visible, such as a shell embedded in the monastery wall from the 1848 siege.
