Dinsdale's Shoe Emporium

Dinsdale's Shoe Emporium is a heritage-listed building located on Avon Terrace in York, Western Australia. Constructed in 1887 by bootmaker William Dinsdale and architect James William Wright, this Victorian Free Classical style building originally served as a boot, shoe, and saddle store, featuring its original shop counter and visible wall lettering from its early days. Dinsdale, who also served as the Mayor of York, expanded the business and even traveled across Australia to acquire new machinery. Over the years, the building has housed various businesses, including a lodging house known as the Temperance Hotel. It is recognized for its historical significance, listed on multiple heritage registers, and underwent façade restoration in 2017, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in local history.
