Vanderhorst Row

Vanderhorst Row is a historic three-unit residential building located in Charleston, South Carolina, constructed in 1800 by former governor Arnoldus Vanderhorst. Each four-story unit features entrances on East Bay Street and has undergone significant restoration since falling into disrepair after the Civil War. In 1935, Josiah E. Smith invested $30,000 in its restoration, led by architect Stephen Thomas. The building now includes modern amenities while retaining its historical charm, and has served various purposes, including as the headquarters for the Charleston Club until 1958. This site offers a glimpse into Charleston's architectural heritage and the evolution of its urban landscape.
