Nelson Homestead

Nelson Homestead, also known as the Elisha Riggin House, is a historic 'telescope' style home located in Crisfield, Maryland, built around 1836 by shipbuilder Elisha Riggin. This unique structure features a three-part wood-frame design with original interior woodwork and Federal style details, making it one of the least altered examples of its kind. The property includes a family cemetery and a small outbuilding. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, it has been recognized as an important endangered historic property. Currently owned by musician Jennifer Smith, plans are underway to transform the homestead into an artist retreat and heritage tourism site, offering a glimpse into Maryland's colonial history and architectural heritage.
