Edgewood, 1818 (Amherst, Virginia)

Edgewood, also known as Higginbotham House, is a historic home located in Amherst, Virginia, built in 1818 by local attorney Arthur B. Davies. This two-story, seven-bay brick dwelling showcases Greek Revival architecture and features a striking wooden portico. The house retains much of its original woodwork and includes murals by an unknown artist. It served as the Higginbotham Academy from 1851 to 1860 and has been a local Masonic Hall and Methodist meeting place. In 2006, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in Virginia's architectural and educational history.
