Masjid Al-Abrar

Masjid Al-Abrar, located in Chinatown, Singapore, is one of the country's earliest mosques, established by Tamil immigrants in 1827. Originally a thatched hut, it was replaced by a brick structure between 1850 and 1855 and underwent significant renovations in the late 1980s to accommodate up to 800 worshippers. The mosque features Indo-Islamic architecture, highlighted by two tall minarets, and is situated along a row of shophouses with a connecting walkway. Designated a national monument in 1974, it is administered by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and is easily accessible from Telok Ayer MRT station, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in Singapore's cultural and religious history.
