James Akey Farm

The James Akey Farm, located near Mount Eaton in southeastern Wayne County, Ohio, is a historic farmstead established in 1822 by Irish immigrant James Akey. This sandstone farmhouse, notable for its imposing yet plain architecture, is surrounded by newer outbuildings that were added during a period of Amish ownership. Now operated as the Stark Wilderness Center Pioneer Farm, this museum offers visitors a glimpse into local history and well-preserved architecture. Recognized for its historical significance, the farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it a unique destination for tourists and researchers interested in Ohio's agricultural heritage.
