The Dakota

The Dakota, completed in 1884 and designed by architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, is an apartment building on the Upper West Side noted for its German Renaissance–influenced design. It was designated a New York City Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Resident John Lennon was shot and killed outside the building's entrance on December 8, 1980.
