Old State House balcony where the Declaration was read

The east-facing balcony of the Old State House is the site where the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed to Bostonians on July 18, 1776. The building, now a museum, preserves that balcony and its sightline over the historic intersection of State and Washington Streets. Visitors to the museum can see the balcony and the view that colonists would have had when the announcement was made.
