Eastern Residential Unit

The Eastern Residential Unit, also known as Hotel La Serra, is a striking building in Ivrea, Italy, part of the Olivetti complex. Designed by architects Igino Cappai and Pietro Mainardis, its construction began in 1968 and was completed in the 1970s. This unique structure, resembling a giant typewriter, features housing units that extend from its main body across four levels. It was originally intended as a conference center with amenities like a hotel, swimming pool, cinema, and exhibition rooms. Notably, Roman-era remains were discovered during construction, adding historical significance to the site.
