Academy of Music - 19th-century performing-arts landmark

The Academy of Music opened in 1857 and is one of the United States' oldest continuously operating opera houses, hosting opera, ballet, and touring performances for more than a century. The theater is the longtime home venue for Opera Philadelphia and serves as a central institution in the city's performing-arts culture. Its gilded interior and historic stage have made it a prominent cultural landmark on Broad Street.
