Colorado State Capitol gold dome and mile-high marker

The dome of the Colorado State Capitol was gilded with gold leaf in 1908 to commemorate Colorado's gold discoveries, and the dome has been re-gilded during subsequent restoration efforts. A step on the west side of the building is marked 'One Mile Above Sea Level' at 5,280 feet, a marker long associated with Denver's 'Mile High' designation. The Neoclassical capitol building is a public landmark that offers tours and official functions.
