Cheena Kottaram

Cheena Kottaram, also known as China Palace, is a historic rest house located in Kollam, India, built in 1904 for the King of Travancore, Sri Mulam Tirunal Rama Varma. This single-storied, red-brick structure features seven rooms and showcases Indo-Saracenic architecture, a unique blend of Indian, European, Islamic, and Moorish styles. The building earned its name due to its resemblance to ancient Chinese architecture. Situated near the Quilon Junction railway station, it played a significant role in the region's connectivity during the pre-independence era, when Kollam was a thriving commercial hub. Although it has not yet received 'National Heritage Monument' status, Cheena Kottaram remains a notable landmark reflecting the rich history and architectural diversity of the area.
