African Meeting House (Black Heritage Trail)

The African Meeting House, built in 1806 and located on Joy Street, is the oldest surviving black church building in the United States and served as a center for African American community life and abolitionist activity. It is part of the Boston African American National Historic Site and a principal stop on the Black Heritage Trail that interprets Black Boston history in Beacon Hill. The building now functions as a museum and historic site.
