Forest Retreat

Forest Retreat is a historic house located in Nicholas County, Kentucky, once the home of Thomas Metcalfe, the 10th Governor of Kentucky and a U.S. Senator. Built in 1795, it now operates as a Bed & Breakfast and event venue. The property features a burial plot for the Metcalfe family, including the 1954 Kentucky Derby-winning horse, Determine. After years of deterioration, it was revitalized in 1933 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, encompassing 22 acres and several historic buildings.
