Lincoln's Cottage archaeological investigations

Archaeological investigations at Lincoln's Cottage (the Soldiers' Home where Abraham Lincoln stayed) have documented 19th-century landscape features, foundations of outbuildings, and artifact assemblages related to domestic life and the site's enslaved and paid laborers. Excavations recovered ceramics, glass, and structural remains that have been used to interpret day-to-day activities and the built environment of the Soldiers' Home. The findings support the site's interpretation of Lincoln's residence and the broader history of the U.S. Soldiers' Home grounds.
