Arica House of Culture

The Arica House of Culture, a National Monument of Chile, is a historic building located in Arica, designed by Gustave Eiffel's company and constructed between 1871 and 1874. Originally serving as a custom house, it was built after the 1868 earthquake destroyed the previous structure. The building features a Neo-classical style with a rectangular plan, brick walls from France, and a metal roof. It survived the 1877 tsunami and continued to function as a custom house until 1977, later transforming into a cultural center in 1991. A recent renovation in 2020 enhanced its structural integrity, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in Chile's architectural and cultural history.
