Kyzyl-Tan (Almaty)

Kyzyl-Tan is a historic architectural monument located at 63 Jibek Joly Street in Almaty, Kazakhstan, representing the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Originally built for Tatar merchant Iskhak Gabdulvaliev, its construction date is debated between 1896 and 1912, attributed to architects Paul Gourdet and Andrey Zenkov. The building features a symmetrical design with a central dome and ornate pediments, covering an area of 1450 m². It has served various purposes over the years, including a store and a specialty fabric shop, and has been recognized as a national cultural monument since 1982. Despite facing challenges, including a significant fire in 2009 and plans for demolition in 2021, Kyzyl-Tan remains a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in Kazakhstan's architectural heritage.
