The Powel House (Society Hill townhouse)

The Powel House is an 18th-century Georgian townhouse built c.1765 and was the residence of Samuel Powel, a mayor of Philadelphia and associate of George Washington. The house preserves original Georgian interior woodwork, plasterwork, and period decorative arts and operates as a house museum. It is managed by a preservation organization and interpreted through guided tours that reveal interiors not visible from the street.
