Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern (former municipal reservoir)

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is an underground former municipal drinking-water reservoir built in 1926 beneath what is now Buffalo Bayou Park. The decommissioned cistern was drained and later adapted for public tours and temporary art installations, opening as a cultural space in 2016. Visitors encounter a columned concrete interior with shallow standing water that illustrates Houston's historic subterranean water infrastructure.
