Royal Seminary

The Royal Seminary, established in 1861 in Stockholm, was Sweden's first public institution of higher education for women, marking a significant step in women's rights and education. It was founded in response to the Hertha debate, which advocated for women's legal rights and access to education. The seminary trained female teachers and was complemented by the Royal Normal School for Girls, the first public girls' school in Sweden. Notable alumni include renowned figures such as Selma Lagerlöf and Alice Tegnér. The institution closed in 1943 as women gained broader access to universities, but it remains a symbol of progress in women's education.
