Cable Car Museum and Andrew S. Hallidie

The San Francisco Cable Car Museum preserves historic cable cars and the original winding machinery and interprets the contributions of Andrew S. Hallidie, who is credited with organizing the first successful cable car line in 1873. The museum displays early cable cars and the operating equipment for the city's cable car lines, some of which remain in use. It is located in the Washington-Mason powerhouse and car barn that historically powered the system.
