Gaines–Oliphint House

The Gaines–Oliphint House is a historic log cabin located in Milam, Sabine County, Texas, built in 1818 by enslaved individuals for the family of James Taylor Gaines. This significant structure has connections to notable figures in Texas history, including Sam Houston and Davy Crockett, who have stayed there. The house was sold to Martha A. Oliphint in 1843 and has undergone various ownership changes, ultimately being preserved by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas after a donation in 1984. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, making it a key site for those interested in Texas heritage and history.
