James W. Hoge House

The James W. Hoge House is a historic home located in Winfield, Putnam County, West Virginia, recognized for its architectural significance and rich history. Built in 1838, it was the residence of James W. Hoge, a prominent lawyer and judge involved in the Virginia Secession Convention. The house, showcasing Federal-style architecture, features unique design elements such as stepped parapets and a decorative cornice. In 2004, it was relocated to preserve it from demolition. The property also includes the Hoge Cemetery, which holds the graves of Hoge family members and unmarked graves of enslaved individuals, adding to its historical importance.
