Fort Wayne - 19th-century fort and Civil War muster site

Fort Wayne, constructed beginning in 1845 as part of the United States' Third System coastal defenses, includes surviving mid-19th-century masonry and earthwork fortifications. During the American Civil War the fort served as a muster and training site for Michigan volunteer regiments and later functioned in various military roles. Today the site is preserved as Fort Wayne Historic Site with exhibits interpreting its military history.
