Charles Marsh Law Office

The Charles Marsh Law Office, located at 72 Hartland Hill Road in Woodstock, Vermont, is a historic building dating back to around 1797. Recognized as the oldest surviving detached law office in the state, it was originally built for lawyer Charles Marsh and served as a training ground for his sons, George Perkins Marsh and Lyndon Arnold Marsh, who both pursued legal careers. The building has undergone several relocations and transformations, including its conversion from a law office to a grain store before becoming a private residence. Notable for its post-and-beam construction and original 19th-century fixtures, the structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, making it a significant site for those interested in legal history and architecture in Vermont.
