Joseph F. Firestone House

The Joseph F. Firestone House, once located at 1266 E. Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio, was a prominent historic residence designed by renowned architect Frank Packard. Built between 1905 and 1906, this massive three-story structure featured elaborate Second Renaissance Revival architectural elements, including intricate stone trim and a distinctive low-pitched hip roof. Originally constructed for Joseph Frederick Firestone, a vice president of the Columbus Buggy Company, the house changed hands several times and was converted into apartments in the 1930s. Despite its historical significance and contributions to the East Broad Street Historic District, the house was demolished by the Columbus Foundation in 2008 after years of vacancy, sparking protests from local preservation groups. Today, the site is transformed into green space for overflow parking, marking the loss of a notable piece of Columbus's architectural heritage.
