Ellis Island Immigration Station

Ellis Island served as the United States' busiest federal immigration inspection station from 1892 to 1954. During that period it processed more than 12 million immigrants arriving to the United States. The island is part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and today houses the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration operated by the National Park Service.
